September 18, 2008 - Back to work ! (Belgium, France, Ireland, Italy)

Summer's lazy days are gone...

My next book, Je ne verrai pas Okinawa, will be out on October 15 (in less than one month !!!). You can see an excerpt at the Impressions Nouvelles website. This time, there won't be a big book-signing tour. I loved the two previous ones, but they literally exhausted me (physically and emotionally)... I have to take it easy ! This winter, I may only attend one or two events, notably in a Brussels bookstore in November. I'll let you know as soon as I get more information.

After the publications in France, Spain (2006) and Brazil (2007), Fraise et Chocolat will be released in Italy in the first semester of 2009 by Coniglio Editore (yes, "coniglio" means "rabbit" in Italian).

The English version of my earlier note entitled "Go sit in the corner, Aurita !" (concerning my opinion on awards and other "official" selections) is now available, thanks to Irish writer and critic Katherine Farmar. Her translation of my note appeared in a merciless - but so true and so beneficial ! - article about the Eisner Awards. You can read the entire article here.

To finish on a cheerful note, I have put online my illustrations for French daily newspaper Libération, which appeared on August 2. Although it is in French, I assume most readers will get the picture...

July 30, 2008 - Some news, at last...

Wow, has it really been 6 months since my last update ? How time flies...

(I intended to put this drawing online a month ago...)

I was working on my next book, which
will be released in France in October by Les Impressions Nouvelles. Meanwhile, Fraise et Chocolat lives its life... It may soon be available in a new language.

And several of my illustrations should appear in French daily newspaper Libération
on Saturday, August 2...

January 4, 2008 - Happy new year (again) !!!

January 3, 2008 - Aurita.net is one year old today !

Well, as a matter of fact, it was YESTERDAY...

I messed up again : last year I was already one day late (I wanted to launch the website on January 1, 2007)... Next year I'll be three days late !

Anyway, happy new year 2008 !!!

To celebrate the new year and the site's birthday, rendez-vous at the "bonus" section ! It will be my greeting card, the word "love" written 40 times in the same page...

...we don't do things half-heartedly at aurita.net !

December 22, 2007 - Radio interview (France)

December 3, 2007 - New articles (Belgium, France, Spain)

Well, the tour is over...
Lots of nice encounters, closeness and expressions of affection that turned me upside down !
Many thanks to you all !!!

With all this, I've been late with the updates... At the "media" corner, you'll find 5 new articles (Livres Hebdo, El País, Público.es, 20Minutes.fr and La Libre Belgique). I've also updated my "comics" page.

Otherwise, between signings, I made my first short story in color ! It is 7 pages long and will be published in the next special issue of Beaux-Arts Magazine (France) on December 15.

I'll be able to rest a bit, before I start my next project...

September 28, 2007 - Aurélia Aurita and Frédéric Boilet get it on and get it out this Fall

July 4, 2007 - Fraise et Chocolat 2 (France)

It's official : Fraise et Chocolat 2 will be released in France on October 19, 2007 by Les Impressions Nouvelles ! I haven't got much time left to finish it... It'll probably take me the whole summer ! Well, anyway, summer is the worst season in Japan. Too hot and humid to go out... Better stay at home and work !
In January, I said there would be excerpts of my new book on this website... Unfortunately, I don't have enough hindsight yet to choose the most representative ones... But here's the cover as well as an extract from the press release (in French) :

May 14, 2007 - Morango e Chocolate (Brazil)

After the publications in French and Spanish (2006), Fraise et Chocolat will be released in Portuguese in 2007 by Casa 21 (Brazil).
Meanwhile, Fraise et Chocolat 2 is in progress... The French edition will be released next October by Les Impressions Nouvelles.

February 23, 2007 - Go sit in the corner, Aurita ! (France)

Last 17th of February, having forgotten about Angoulême for many weeks and although I had thought that Fraise et Chocolat was sheltered from the masquerade of prizes, I learn from my publisher that the book was chosen, with 5 other works, for the Young Talents of Comics prize (endowed with €3,000) organised by Virgin, dBD and Le Figaro magazine. Presented with a fait accompli, I write the following email to one of the people responsible (extract):

Dear Frédéric Bosser,

(...) I understand that this distinction arises from a good intention, but I regret I must ask you to withdraw my book from the selection.

My request has nothing to do with either the contents of the selection, or the composition of the jury. This is not a refusal on the form, but on the basis, even the principle of prizes. Quite simply, I do not admit that a book can be judged by an authority, and that works that are of their essence unique and singular can be compared and submitted to a hierarchy.

I would be grateful if you would inform me of the manner in which you will proceed with this deselection. For example, you could quickly nominate another book in place of mine? (...)

Cordially,

Aurélia Aurita

Here is an extract of the response that was made to me:

Aurélia,

A mail to give you our position, we were all disappointed by your position even if we understand so it was decided not to withdraw you from the selection but to automatically attribute to you the 6th place. (...)

Cordially,

François-Régis Houel

Stunned, I take all the same the precaution of asking if this response is serious or if it's a joke. They respond that it was "serious humour"...

In proposing that my book be discreetly withdrawn from the selection, I hoped to avoid all polemics, and publicity surrounding my request. The people in charge rejected my demand, they left me no other choice but to explain myself publically by my own means, in drawings... and with "serious humour"?

January 2, 2007 - Launching of Aurita.net !

Welcome to my very first website !

Frédéric gave me this domain name for my birthday.

I designed this website myself, so please be gentle... I forced myself to learn, so I wouldn't have to rely on other people to update it. This is why I prefer to call it my "mini website"... It will improve with my computer skills !
Right now, I am in Japan working on the sequel to Fraise et Chocolat... The book will be approximately 200 pages long and it will be published in France in Autumn 2007. I may put some excerpts in the "bonus" part of this website.

Happy new year to you all !
